Recent Reads: Unmerited Favor

favorcover

We have all seen the bumper sticker "Know Jesus, Know Peace." One problem with that...they forgot to add the grace!

May grace (God's favor) and peace (which is perfect well-being, all necessary good, all spiritual prosperity, and freedom from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts)  be multiplied to you in [the full, personal, precise, and correct] knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. - 2 Peter 1:2, AMP

Grace: Aka unmerited favor, aka the new covenant of, aka the most amazing gift we have and will ever receive! The 'Gospel of Grace' is the foundation of Joseph Prince's ministry. (Prince is the pastor of New Creation Church in Singapore which has in the last few months reached 30,000 members--grace saves!)

All I can say about this book is....wow. I practically highlighted half the book! This book is so enlightening - even for someone like me who has been a Christian since childhood, raised in church and attended Christian schools. So pure and simple, yet so profound. I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read it yet, but here is just one of the truths I discovered while reading:

  • Old covenant favor had to be earned and was based solely man's righteousness as he kept the law. New covenant favor is a free gift that cannot be earned and is solely based on Jesus' righteousness when He fulfilled the law with his perfect once-and-for-all sacrifice for our sins on the cross. When we try to earn God's favor today, based on our righteousness, the Bible says we are actually cut off  from Jesus and His grace!
For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God's grace. - Galatians 5:4
So....how do we receive favor? When we stop striving in our mind & body and start thriving in our spirit by growing in our relationship with Christ, knowing that by Him we are made the righteousness of God. Have an real, honest intimate relationship with Him. Study his life, meditate His Word, talk to him, praise Him, submit your thoughts, words and actions to Him. Then, and only then can you expect to experience His favor.

Grace 'N Peace, y'all.
