Design = a purposeful arrangement of details
We as women were designed by God. Or you might say all of our details were purposefully arranged. A great design isn't valuable unless its used properly. Our roles as women are clearly defined in the Bible:
Design for Women
When God made woman in Gen 2:18 He referred to her as a helper. The word helper in this context translates to the Hebrew word ezer, a word used to describe military aid. The military aid needed in the Garden of Eden was against the spiritual attack of Satan. Womankind were designed to be spiritual warriors; not dependent upon man, but to be fighters alongside him. Regardless of age or marital status, all women are called by God to fight the good fight of faith.
Design for Wives
King Lemuel's mother described to her son how to identify a virtuous woman in Proverbs 31:10-31. The handbook on how to be the most godly, loving and productive wife is all found in this passage. Although we might not fully obtain these characteristics, it is the goal we are to aim for as wives. An excellent resource on this subject can be found in the book The Proverbs 31 Woman A Study Guide by E.R. Reid.
Design for Mothers
God's Word outlines the design for mothers:
- Availability – morning, noon, and night (Deut 6:6-7)
- Involvement – interacting, discussing, thinking, and processing life together (Eph 6:4)
- Teaching – the Scriptures and a biblical worldview (Ps 78:5-6; Deut 4:10; Eph 6:4)
- Training – helping a child to develop skills and discover his/her strengths (Prov 22:6) and spiritual gifts (Rom 12:3-8 and 1 Corinthians 12)
- Discipline – teaching the fear of the Lord, drawing the line consistently, lovingly, firmly (Eph 6:4; Heb 12:5-11; Prov 13:24;19:18;22:15;23:13-14;29:15-17)
- Nurture – providing an environment of constant verbal support, freedom to fail, acceptance, affection, unconditional love (Titus 2:4; 2 Tim 1:7; Eph 4:29-32;5:1-2; Gal 5:22; 1 Peter 3:8-9)
- Modeling with Integrity – living what you say, being a model from which a child can learn by “catching” the essence of godly living (Deut 4:9,15,23; Prov 10:9;11:3; Ps 37:18,37).
